Welcome! Come and wander around our creative playground and see who lives and works here. Our Sunshine Coast artists from Langdale to Powell River work in all medium and sizes, from Pauline Lawson's exotic miniatures to Gordon Halloran's massive ice paintings at the Torino and Whistler Olympic Games. Come and meet us and see what we create...
This free site is a random act of kindness that works to promote all artists and craftsmen of the Sunshine Coast. Click on hot pink links to visit each artist's own website. Visited links will appear gray.
We now have a blog where members can post their images and thoughts, great for those without sites of their own of for people who just like to blog. Just contact Paula to find out how to access the blog.
It is the result of Paula O'Brien wondering what other artists are working away in their studios here on the Sunshine Coast and her trying to build and foster greater communication amongst artists. She started this site in October, 2009. In September. we had a wonderful networking evening with 19 artists gathering to meet each other. Some of us have been here a long time but others are newcomers to the coast art scene and this seems like a great way to see who is creating what and make connections. A good time was had by all and we hope to do it again soon!
This site is a portal to the sites of many of the diverse artists on BC's beautiful Sunshine Coast, a short ferry ride from Vancouver. There are many more creative and talented artists that are not yet included here and we welcome suggestions and submissions from artists of all kinds. If you would like to be added to or removed from this directory, please submit request.
How did you find all these artists and/or why am I not included here?
When I first got this idea, I scoured all the online directories I could find easily, the Purple banner listings, etc and started with only those who had websites. When I had the page built with about 100 listings actively pointing to their websites, I launched the site and then sent everyone an email asking for images to accompany their listing. Only one artist requested removal from the page and two more had moved away so 97 hits and 3 misses was pretty good going. I have spent the last few months actively hunting and gathering up artists I have stumbled across but I can't find them all myself. This site will grow when people pass it on to others and share the word.
If you missed out on having your image in the online slideshow for YouTube, send me your one best image and I'll file it away for next time. Someone commented, "of 120 artists, you included only three from north of Halfmoon Bay." Well, I put in all the images sent to me from those who responded to my repeated requests for images. I can only offer a free gift so many times before giving up on people who do not respond to their emails. I also personally telephoned a dozen who I particularly hoped to include, too. Just spread the word and submit your images and the northern areas may gain a stronger showing here. It's up to you guys and gals now.
If you have enjoyed this site, please share it by passing it on to others or by putting a link to it on your own links page.
Welcome! Come and visit us or join us soon.
Yours sincerely-
Paula O'Brien
